1. The Jury Experience: Love Triangle
The Jury Experience puts the audience in the jury box for a live courtroom drama built around a love triangle gone wrong. Actors play witnesses and lawyers in real time, cross-examining each other as the case unfolds, and the verdict depends on how the room votes at the end. It runs inside Palacio de la Prensa, the restored Art Deco cinema on Gran Vía, with two sessions on the day itself, each lasting around 75 minutes.

2. Flamenco show "Carácter y Presencia"
Carácter y Presencia is a flamenco show at Centro Cultural Flamenco, a small tablao built specifically for live performance rather than dinner theatre. Dancers and musicians work through classic and contemporary palos across a single set, with the close seating putting the audience within a few metres of the stage. The programme runs on its last dates this weekend before the show closes, with extra late sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

3. The Immortal Triad: El Greco, Velázquez and Goya
The Immortal Triad puts El Greco, Velázquez and Goya inside a single immersive room at Nomad Museo Inmersivo, using floor and wall projections to move between their paintings rather than hanging originals on a wall. Fire, ash and shifting light stand in for the three painters' recurring motifs, from El Greco's elongated figures to Goya's darker late work. It's the exhibition's final weekend before it closes on 31 August.

4. Museum of Romanticism: free entry in August
The Museum of Romanticism is free to enter throughout August, giving access to its two current exhibitions alongside the permanent collection of 19th-century furniture, paintings and personal objects housed in a restored aristocratic mansion. The rooms are arranged as they might have looked when lived in, rather than as a conventional gallery hang, which makes the visit feel closer to walking through a preserved home. Free entry ends with the month.

5. Richard Avedon: In the American West
In the American West gathers Richard Avedon's large-format portraits of miners, waitresses and drifters, shot across the American West between 1979 and 1984 against the same blank white backdrop he used for fashion work. Fundación MAPFRE's Sala Recoletos hosts the full series, printed at the scale Avedon intended, which turns ordinary working people into images as monumental as his celebrity portraits. The show closes on 30 August.

6. Talia Chetrit: Bunny

Bunny brings together new work by Talia Chetrit for PHotoESPAÑA 2026, staged at Museo Lázaro Galdiano, a house museum better known for its old master paintings than contemporary photography. Chetrit's images mix self-portraiture, studio setups and family snapshots, often blurring which is which. The pairing of a conceptual photography show with Lázaro Galdiano's period rooms is part of what makes the exhibition worth the detour, and it closes on 30 August.

7. Monographic exhibition of Ewa Juszkiewicz
The Thyssen-Bornemisza's monographic show on Ewa Juszkiewicz gathers the Polish painter's portraits, in which classical female sitters have their faces replaced by drapery, hair, shells or foliage. The paintings borrow directly from 18th- and 19th-century portrait conventions before undermining them, hung in dialogue with the museum's own historic collection. It's her first major museum survey in Spain and runs into early September.

8. Euphoria – Art Is in the Air
Euphoria – Art Is in the Air fills Casa de Campo's Escenario Puerta del Ángel with a dozen inflatable installations from the Balloon Museum, each built around a different sensory idea, from a room of giant soft pillows to a corridor of moving air currents. Nothing is behind glass, and most rooms are designed to be touched, sat in or walked through rather than viewed from a distance. The installation runs into early September.

9. Refugio Climático
Refugio Climático turns part of the Círculo de Bellas Artes into a free, plant-filled shelter designed to demonstrate how greenery and shade can lower temperatures in central Madrid during the hottest months. The space combines dense planting with seating and misting points, and doubles as a small public programme on urban heat and climate adaptation. Entry is free daily and the shelter stays open into early September.

10. Horizon of Cheops
Horizon of Cheops puts small groups inside a virtual-reality reconstruction of Giza at the time the pyramids were built, walking through Khufu's funerary boat and the plateau as it looked roughly 4,500 years ago. Sessions run in timed slots at Fever Hub Madrid rather than as a walk-through exhibition, with headsets tracking movement through the reconstructed site. It's in its final weekend before closing on 29 August.

11. Quantum Revolution
Quantum Revolution is a free interactive exhibition at Espacio Fundación Telefónica built around the physics of quantum computing, using hands-on installations rather than wall text to explain superposition, entanglement and how qubits differ from ordinary bits. 12. Yo fui a EGB
Yo fui a EGB is a free nostalgia exhibition at Conde Duque built entirely from the everyday objects, toys, school books and adverts of Spain's EGB generation, who grew up under the 1970s and 80s state education system. The show is arranged as a walk-through recreation of a period classroom, living room and playground rather than a conventional object-in-a-case display. 13. Misterios de la Materia

14. OXO: the interactive Video Game Museum
OXO is a playable video game museum in the centre of Madrid, with more than a hundred consoles and cabinets spanning seven decades of gaming history, from early arcade machines to consoles from the past decade. Almost everything on display can be picked up and played rather than viewed behind glass, and entry includes unlimited time on the machines. It's built around hands-on play rather than a curated walkthrough.
