For eleven days each September, Madrid's five-star hotels swap the usual lobby bar for a citywide tapas trail: Hotel Tapa Tour returns for its 11th edition from 17 to 27 September 2026, with participating hotels serving competition tapas paired with wine, Cava and cocktails.

What it is

Founded in 2016 by entrepreneur Nona Rubio, Hotel Tapa Tour opens the restaurants, bars and terraces of Madrid's luxury hotels to walk-in visitors, no reservation required. Each participating hotel offers up to four tapas: a "Tapa Nacional" paired with Ribera del Duero wines, a "Tapa Fusión" with Cava, a signature croquette with a Martini Bianco Spritz, and a "Tapa Dulce" with a cocktail. A handful of hotels — including Rosewood Villa Magna and Brach Madrid — also run guided in-house tours pairing tapas with the building's own history. Six suggested routes group hotels by neighbourhood for anyone wanting to cover several in one outing.

Why it's worth attending

This is one of the few chances to walk into hotels like the Ritz or Four Seasons without a room reservation or restaurant booking, at a genuinely accessible per-tapa price. The catch: it's popular, so expect queues at the best-known hotels on opening weekend, and the guided in-house tours need advance booking rather than turning up on the day.

Practical info

Dates: 17–27 September 2026, across participating hotels citywide — there's no single venue. Tapas typically cost €8–14 including the pairing. No tickets or reservations are needed for walk-in tapas; in-house tours must be booked directly with the hotel. The full hotel list and routes are published on the festival's official site closer to the date.

FAQ

Do I need to book a table?
No, walk-in tapas need no reservation — only the guided in-house hotel tours do.

Can I visit more than one hotel in a night?
Yes, the official routes group 3–5 hotels within walking distance of each other.

Is it suitable for vegetarians?
Some hotels offer a vegetarian tapa option; check with each venue on arrival.

Do I have to try all four tapas at each hotel?
No, each tapa is sold and priced individually, so you can pick just the ones that interest you at each stop.
